Fonti bibliografiche attestano la presenza di questo vitigno in varie zone del Piemonte sin dalla fine dell’Ottocento, mentre oggi la maggior parte della produzione si concentra nei comuni di Capriata d’Orba, Francavilla Bisio e Gavi. Nonostante non goda della medesima fama dei “rossi nobili” tipici della nostra regione, è molto apprezzato come vino da aperitivo o pasto per accompagnamenti ad antipasti o primi piatti leggeri.
